I've grown something!!

I know there will be some of you out there who will think 'so what?' when I tell you that I have got flowers on my orchid. It was an orchid that my friend Helen bought for me for my 40th Birthday last November. Once the flowers had died I thought I just had to throw it away..(as you may be discovering I'm not much of a gardener!) but I went on the internet just before I put it in the bin and found a website explaining that I could carry on growing it..so I started looking after the plant and now nine whole months later here is the result..

Flowers that I helped to grow!! I was so proud as I am the least garden/plant friendly person you will meet. I can kill any plant just by being near it!! I doubt this will be a new hobby but I wanted to share it with you as Ian hasn't been that impressed..surprisingly!!

I'm still working on commission cards for mags so once again no crafting that I can share at the moment but that will change soon as I've a birthday card to make for my friend Vic..if I can find time to fit it in between everything else.

The designing for the new CD is going well and I've almost finished some Christmas word book downloads that should be available in September (fingers crossed!)
If you were planning on joining in with the first challenge on the Funky Hand Design Team blog Get Funky! you only have until Monday 31st August to get your cards done. The August winner will be announced on Tuesday 1st September and a new challenge will be launched and it's a great one from our Ruth (TipTop)

I speak to you again very soon as I've something exciting to announce for the weekend....

What I was up to this weekend!

As you may not know I live in Newcastle so we don't visit London that often as it's a bit far away!! Anyway this weekend Ian treated me to a weekend there so I could visit a few exhibitions that are on at the moment about King Henry VIII. As well as crafting my other big interest is Tudor history and as it's 500 years this year since Henry was crowned King there has been some stuff going on around London. Anyway we visited the British Library, The Tower of London and had a day at Hampton Court..it was all very interesting. I have to admit I already knew all the historical facts, but Ian learned things he didn't know (though I'm sure he didn't care that much either!!) but it was great to be able to see the actual paintings and places that I had read about in the many, many books I own about the subject!!

So I haven't been crafting this weekend but I thought I'd share a few pictures and purchases I made whilst we were down south..

Funky Hand does need new offices but I'm not sure that this would be big enough really...

Proof that I am the creative one in Funky Hand rather than the techie..which is Ians side of things, as I try to understand how to work the tour guide around Hampton Court.

I also bought a complete set of Xmas decorations of Henry & his six wives that Ian hasn't stopped ridiculing but I loved all the bling on their outfits and they fed my crafty needs for the weekend. Henry is up top but here are the girls..

I know, I know, more than a little sad but I don't care!

On the actual Funky Hand work front I am getting along nicely designing new papers for the next CD release and as so many of you have contacted me and asked.. I am starting work on a couple of Christmas themed word book download collections so keep your eyes on the website for their release in the near future. Talking of near future we are now over half way through August which means if you want to join in on our first monthly challenge over at the Get Funky! Challenge blog you have to start thinking about getting those cards posted on your blogs. We have had loads of wonderful entries so far but there is plenty of space for more. Don't forget a £20.00 voucher to spend on www.funkyhand.com is up for grabs so don't miss out!!

Speak again very soon.

It's Left Handers Day !

Once a year on this day August 13th we left handers have our very own special day! Luckily for me Ian, my other half is also left handed so our whole house is set up for left handed use. Left handed keyboards for our computers, left handed scissors, the kettle set out on the counter so it can be picked up and poured with your left hand the list goes on!

It's quite funny when friends and family members visit our house because we are the only lefties amongst them all. They all have trouble using things in our house and when they complain we just say 'welcome to our world..everywhere we go we have the same trouble using your righty stuff!' So today I am celebrating my lefthandednes!

I'M LEFT HANDED AND I'M PROUD!! HaHa!

Oh don't forget you still have the rest of the month to join in with the Funky Hand Design Teams first challenge on the Get Funky ! Challenge Blog. We've already had some really fantastic entries. Join in and have the chance to win a £20.00 voucher to spend on my website www.funkyhand.com

Just a quick catch up...

I am working away here at Funky Hand Towers on paper designs for the new CD. Things are going pretty well so far so I'm feeling rather positive at the moment. If my mojo keeps going like it is then I hope to keep to my timetable of getting all the designing done by mid September.. keeping my fingers crossed, but you know what these mojos are like!!

As well as all this backing paper designing I've also been making a few cards..but they are all commissioned cards for magazines so I can't share them with you here, which is a bit of a shame. I'm hoping to get a few hours to myself later in the week and I might get a chance to join in with a challenge somewhere and then I'll have something crafty to share.. Talking of challenges our first monthly challenge on the Funky Hand Design Team challenge blog Get Funky! is still going on..we've had some fantastic entries so far but there is still plenty of time to enter to win that £20.00 gift voucher to spend on Funky Hand goodies.

So, to make up for not having any cards to share..and to have at least one picture in this post (!) I thought I would share with you my new work shoes...now, if you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that when I talk about my 'work shoes' I really mean my slippers as that's what I wear all day as I wizz around these Funky Hand Towers trying my best to stay on top of everything! My last pair finally bit the dust just before I went on holiday so I decided to invest in some extra special holiday work shoes..get a load of these beauties!!

I've already got big plans for those flowers once the wear has gone out of this pair. Ian finds it quite embarassing these days I think when I'm choosing new work shoes as I don't just pick up something that look like they will be comfortable and do the job..I take a long time assessing their decoration and what I can do with the beads etc.. or in this case giant flowers afterwards!!

See crafters never waste anything!
Speak again soon.

August Birthday card Number Two!

I said I'd be back today with another August birthday card. This one's for my Moms 60th birthday which is today! So Happy Birthday Mom !

I decided to make her a card that didn't say 60 on it as I know that is what she would prefer!

The card is A5 and I used my latest download collection Hearts and Flowers for the papers. I printed the base card with one paper design and folded the card myself so that the design was all over the back of the card as well. For the sentiment I used my fav doodlebug all mixed up rub ons and once I'd added the letters to the square of card and inked around the edge for some definition I ran it through a sizzix embossing folder but had the dots going in rather than sticking out to stop the rubons being pushed off!! The flowers are both by prima and I just added a button as a centre to the large flower with white craft wire to finish it off.

It was really nice, as we live so far away from my parents, my Dad,my Aunt and Uncle had been arranging a surprise get together last Saturday without my Mom knowing. So Ian and I had to rush down to the Midlands on Saturday and be at my Aunts house by 6.30pm along with all my Moms other friends hidden in the kitchen so that she could arrive with my Dad just to have, what she thought was, a meal with my Aunt and Uncle. She was so surprised to see us all ! It was great. The hardest thing was not giving myself away for the last few weeks on the telephone and not mentioning anything here as she visits this blog regularly. I'm glad she had such a lovely time, she deserved it.

August Birthday card Number One

August is a busy month for birthdays here at Funky Hand Towers so last week it was a nice change to sit down at my crafting desk and actually make cards that are going to be sent to people rather than just be demonstrated or photographed for magazines. The thing was I had a total blank and it took me ages to come up with any designs..isn't it always the way?!

Anyway I thought I'd share the first of the cards today..this was for my best friend Corrinas birthday that was last Saturday...

The bird in a cage is a stamp from a swap the Funky Hand Design Team did a while back I think it was from one of Allisons collections. I coloured it with paints and coloured pens (which I can't remember the names of sorry) and then cut out the stamp so that you can see the backing paper through the cage. I topped the cage with twisted pink wire and beads..something I haven't done for ages so expect to see that technique on my cards again now I've reminded myself of it!!
The backing paper is a scrap of the striped paper from my Funky Freebie collection that is still available on my website. I hand wrote the happy birthday sentiment, the idea came from a card that I recieved a while ago from one of my design team members Lythan..her handwritten sentiment was a bit better than mine but..at least I had a go! Corrina seemed to like it anyway on Friday night when we went out for a meal for her birthday..though she had drunk half a bottle of white wine by then so she could have just been being kind!!

Oh as a little reminder our Get Funky monthly challenge blog launched last weekend and we have already had some fabby entries for the August challenge..you have the whole month to take part so don't forget to pop over there and join in..if you're not in it you can't win the £20.00 voucher to spend on my website www.funkyhand.com. I hope to see you there..

I'll be back with August birthday card number two tomorrow which was a special one as it was for my Moms birthday..a special birthday.
See you then!
